A paper, a ruling, a retraction, a correction. Every note states what changed in the library as a result — and most of the time the answer is nothing, which is the part worth publishing.
FDA’s compounding committee reviewed BPC-157. Nothing was added to any list.
The Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee considered BPC-157 for possible inclusion on the 503A Bulks List, for the proposed use of ulcerative colitis. Advisory recommendations are non-binding, nothing was added as a result, and inclusion would require formal rulemaking. This note exists because a committee reviewing a substance is routinely reported as a regulator endorsing one.
BPC-157’s Category 2 entry moved to the withdrawn-nominations table
FDA’s interim bulk drug substances page now lists it among substances nominated but subsequently withdrawn by the nominators. That is a change in the administrative record and not a safety finding in either direction. The guide’s regulatory section was updated and dated.
First independent replication of the BPC-157 vascular finding
A group in Türkiye reported protection against lower-limb ischaemia-reperfusion injury in rats, with reductions in markers of oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis. This is the newest independent replication in the literature and the one most worth watching, because it tests the vascular mechanism the whole cytoprotection frame depends on. Replication in rats does not create human data.
In the only independent head-to-head, BPC-157 placed second
A rat Achilles transection-and-repair model tested BPC-157 and a thymosin β4 fragment under identical conditions. BPC-157 showed higher maximum load to failure than controls and numerically lower degeneration scores, but neither reached significance. The comparator’s did. Eight animals per arm and a single dose level, so this settles nothing — but it is the only test of its kind and both guides now cite it.
A formal Comment and Reply on BPC-157’s mechanism
Pharmaceuticals published a Comment from the originating Zagreb group disputing the mechanistic account given in a literature-and-patent review, alongside a Reply from that review’s authors. Both are now cited in the guide. A published exchange of this kind is more informative than either paper alone, and it is unusual for a compound of this profile to have generated one.
SS-31 moved to Approved Pharma on accelerated approval for Barth syndrome
The grade records the marketing authorisation and nothing beyond it. Approval for one rare indication is not evidence for any other use, and SS-31 is discussed in a great many contexts that have nothing to do with Barth syndrome. The guide names the indication in the grade line for exactly that reason.
A publication that only posts when a grade moves will look like it is discovering things constantly. Most weeks the honest report is that a paper was published, it was read, and it did not change the assessment. Those notes are published too, because a record of what did not move the needle is the only way to judge what did.
